OpenDaylight (ODL) gets more technology companies as members for its open source project group focused on delivering modern day networking; the project also expands the number of internships from 7 in the last year to 14 this year. Meaning: OpenDaylight’s efforts for developing SDN and NFV technologies is garnering more attention and is striking the right chord with regard to needs and aspirations of the technology solution providers and the end users.

The companies which have newly joined the open source networking project group include: CA Technologies, Spirent, IIX and Megaport. “These new members bring key management, security, and testing capabilities to the ODL community,” says Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight.

CA Technologies believes that in an environment of upscaling application economy, SDN can play key role in realizing a dynamic network infrastructure. IIX looks forward to contribute in building an ecosystem driven by open source which can replace static traditional networking modalities. Megaport feels that the control of a network should be in the hands of its owner, to that end, the company stands for having an open, interoperable platform to deliver real-time services with reduced complexity. Spirent Communications brings its innovative test solutions expertise in optimizing the ODL’s controller capabilities. The company seeks to help SDN adoption in data center, service provider, and enterprise environments.

Greater Learning Experience
With broader internship program, more people – students and non-students – can make use of this opportunity to boost their skills as they are offered a chance to rub shoulders with leading networking experts. The open source group also benefits from every participating individual as ideas and knowledge is shared and synergized. The group says that the interns will have direct access to code and the expertise working towards realizing networking industry’s foundational open platform for SDN and NFV.
